2009 The Spur, Livermore Valley, Murrieta’s Well
The Spur is the flagship red wine produced by Murrieta’s Well and distributed to various retailers everywhere. One of the first aromas that hits my nose is chocolate followed by cherries and a hint of vanilla. This wine possesses pleasant tannins that do not overpower the tongue and a round mouthfeel. It has a medium body which, when combined with its other characteristics, makes it very easy to drink.
This is a bottle that you will always want to have in your rack. Its attributes appeal to a wide variety of drinkers without “dumbing down” the flavor or mouthfeel and this makes it a great wine to share amongst a group with a variety of palates. The Spur is blend of six varietals in the Bordeaux style. I always find myself searching to pick out the individual components when I try different blends. Winemaker, Karl Wente has crafted a blend where each varietal compliments and supports the overall blend. This has helped create a well balanced and enjoyable wine that is great to be shared with friends and loved ones.
Cheers!
